Sand Dragon Riders

Description

A very few dragons can be ridden. Not because they lack the strength or the intelligence. Most find it beneath them and they would rather eat yo then be ridden.

The Sand Dragon finds some form of satisfaction in their relationship with there human riders. Maybe it is a share of the kills or maybe it is the excuse to run the dunes of desert or just maybe they like our constant chatter that blocks out the sound of the winds.

Nomads ride the sand;
Teeth and scale, claw and talon;
Riders of death come;
-Warning of the Desert

First off I must say that this is a wonderful painting ^_^ !!!! I love the color palette and the dragons design. It is quite interesting how you alternated between the blue and brown.

However I think most of the issues lie with the girl on the dragons back. Her eyes are to close together you need to put them at least an eyes length apart. And the right eye on the viewers right is flat because it is drawn like as if the eye was in a frontal view but it should be in a 3/4 view. I also have a issue with the color palette for her lips and eyes. Their color palette isn't cohesive to rest of the painting making those features stand out to much and pop. Making the mistakes with the eyes stand out even more. One thing you could to to remedy this is to take colors from the rest of the painting and include them in the color palettes of the eyes and lips.

The third flaw is that it seems the girl was an after thought, because of her posing on the dragon and her placement in the painting. I encourage you to rethink the size of the gilr. Her proportion vs the dragon seems to be a bit odd and how she is sitting on him is odd as while. Try to find some refs of people riding animals I would start with horses, [link] .

One last thing to say about the girl is that if she was riding the dragon you are missing a bit of detail on the sides. First you would likely see her legs against the dragon sides and a bit of the saddle and sirup on each of the sides as while.

Other then the girl there some minor mistakes on the dragon, the nostril on the viewers left dragons right, is closer to the center then the other nostril. and there is eight eyes on the viewers right dragons left and only 6 on the other side. Plus the eyes placement aren't symmetrical from one side to the other.

Besides those issues you have painted a sold and beautiful painting. I love your painting technique <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/t/t…" width="15" height="15" alt=":thumbsup:" title="Thumbs Up"/> and look forward to seeing more wokr from you ^_^ <img class="avatar" src="a.deviantart.net/avatars/s/m/s…" alt=":iconsmile--plz:" title="smile--plz"/>
