Biography

Ideally I like to think of myself as a pioneer in my field. At the least I think of myself as a doodler, just trying to connect with my audience. The reality of what I am is probably somewhere in between these two extremes. But if an artist is to move closer to the former of the two goals, he must endeavor to expand the confines of his art; in order to broaden his horizons he must break the boundaries of his craft. As a digital artist I find my urge to do this is extremely keen.

Found within the boundaries of this digital space you will find, I hope, where I have broken from the tendencies of digital illustration. I do not promise to bring you something new but something that has more humanity; something that will reach you.

I am predominantly a children's book illustrator, not because I think that I can pass off half rate work but because I feel that children are the second greatest critics of my work after myself. When you are a child you are at your most perceptive. You look at everything as if it is truly unique, and can give what is a "true" opinion-. a "true" opinion that has not been influenced by the conditioning of society- the opinion that comes straight from the heart or soul.

A long time ago I was at the local bookstore. Little did I realize that at the age of 15, I would stumble across my life-long goal. As I was sitting in the children's book section, I overheard a man of about 30 turn to his wife and say "I remember this book! Wow, my mom used to read this to me every night. Love, we need to get this for our child." with that said he put the book under his arm and the couple left with the book. I smiled as I caught the spine of the book and realized it was Treasure Island illustrated by Howard Pyle. I hoped that wherever Mr. Pyle was, he had caught that interchange. I wrote down what had just been said in my sketchbook and underneath I wrote "Some day I will hear this and it will be my book." Ever since I have studied great fine art, acting, storytelling, and design, so I might reach my audience the best way I can.
